Helene Uhlman

HELENE C. UHLMAN (nee DULLOS) a life long resident of Lake County passed away Friday September 11 2009. Survived by her daughter Melody (late Bernie) Dworin of Chicago brother-in-law Russell (late Joan) Uhlman of Hobart sisters-in-law Norma Capusan of Crown Point Betty (late Robert) Schmidt of MI eight nieces and nephews Lisa (Barry) DeCaro-Johnston of LaPorte Karen (Dan) Darnell of Crown Point Jerry (Lynette) Capusan of LaPorte Deborah Uhlman of Chicago Patrice Uhlman of Hobart Robert Schmidt of Michigan Rob (Cherrie) Schmidt of Michigan and Shauna (Tom) Chase of Pennsylvania and many great nieces and great nephews who loved her very much and her loving friend and companion Anna Kuzyk of Chicago. Preceded in death by husband Howard sister Rosemary Gilbert brother Jerry Capusan Sr. and sister Marcella Yaros sister-in-law Violet Uhlman. Mrs. Uhlmans career spanned over 40 years in the Health Food Environmental and Sanitation Department within the State & National Associations. In 2008 she was the recipient of the Lifetime Membership Award in the International Association of Food Protection. An I.A.F.P. member since 1969 it was during that decade that Mrs. Uhlman became the first female certified milk inspector in the US Grade AMilk Program. She later became the first female Grade AMilk Plant Inspector. Mrs. Uhlmans 40-year career in the industry has encompassed appointments as Project Director for the tri-city Northwest Indiana Grade AMilk Cooperation which evolved into a seven-county Indiana State Department of Health contractual agreement Director of Sanitation and first female Administrator for the City of Gary Health Department Project Director for a stop-smoking program initiated by ISDH with the American Cancer Society and her most recent was a position as Administrator for the City of Hammond Health Department. Friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service 6360 Broadway Merrillville Tuesday September 15 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday September 16 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dominic Bertino officiating from Pruzin Brothers Chapel. At rest Ridgelawn Cemetery.
