Rudolph Kapitan

RUDOLPH F. KAPITAN Rudyage 76 of Crown Point passed away Wednesday March 15 2006 after a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Whiting IN August 16 1929 the second son of Rudolph C. and Johanna (Trizna) Kapitan. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage. Survived by his loving wife Mary (nee Kasper) of almost 49 years and his children and grandchildren: Michael (Mary) Kapitan and Jacob Brandon and Andrew of Hobart Susan (Richard) Scuderi and Jacqueline Richard and Matthew of Valparaiso Carol (Joseph) Sanders and Samuel and Sophia of Crown Point Laura (Dan) Small and Abigael Garret and Olivia of Crown Point and Dorothy (Thomas) Metcalf and Mick and Maggie of Portland OR. He is also survived by sisters: Mary (George) Germek and Tillie (Ray) Bryan both of Crown Point brothers: John (Mary) Kapitan of South Bend Ambrose (Pat) Kapitan of Dyer Joe (Eleanor) Kapitan of Highland and Tony Kapitan of Whiting sisters-in-law: Anne Francik of IL and Marge Dubczak of Munster brothers-in-law: John C. Kasper of VA and Paul Kasper of CA many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved son Rudy Jr. in 1988. Rudy was thankful that he lived a full and complete life with his loving wife Mary and his beautiful grandchildren whom he loved very much. As a seminarian he graduated from St. Josephs Academy in Rensselaer. He received his bachelors degree from Dayton University. He was active in the various parishes of which he was a member. He served as altar boy choir member high school CCD teacher Eucharistic Minister festival finance chairman and parish council member. In 1989 he was chosen to be the Merrillville Man of the Year. He was the founder and past CEO of two family owned corporations: Kapitan Motors Inc. and Oven Works Inc. During his retirement he also established a Christmas tree farm which he dubbed Grandpa Rudys Christmas Tree Farm. He was a member of AMICI friends of the Precious Blood Community. After 32 years of service Rudy retired as VP and Comptroller of a Whiting bank. During his retirement he and his wife traveled extensively. Various cruises took them to the Caribbean Alaska Hawaii Australia and New Zealand. His last cruise was a Baltic Sea cruise which took them to seven countries. When his grandchildren asked him What was life like when you were a child?he decided to write a book about that. He authored and published Seasons of My Childhood. After many requests for a sequel Rudy wrote and published a second book Seasons of My Life. Friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service 811 East Franciscan Drive (on State Road 55 south of State Road 231) Crown Point Sunday from 2-8 p.m. Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday March 20 2006 at 9:30 a.m. from Pruzin & Little Chapel and 10:00 a.m. from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 200 E. 78th Ave. Merrillville with Rev.
