Eileen Zacher

EILEEN C. ZACHER age 92 of Crown Point formerly of Hazel Crest IL passed away Sunday July 19 2009 at the W. J. Riley Memorial Residence in Munster Indiana. She was the beloved wife to Clarence H. Zacher for 27 years. He preceded her in death in 1974. She is the loving mother of Alan R. Zacher and his wife Debbie the cherished grandmother to Joshua A. Zacher and his wife Rebecca Timothy R. Zacher and Melinda S. Biskupski and her husband Brian. She was the dearest sister of Richard B. Curry and his wife Betty dear sister of Gwendolyn C. Vanderbilt and her husband Vern Jr. and the fond aunt of Diane (Tom) Bunting Vern (Lynne) Vanderbilt Burton (Carletta) Vanderbilt and Jeff (Kit) Vanderbilt. Eileen Zacher was born on October 8 1916. She married her husband Clarence on April 12 1947 in Oak Park Illinois. Eileen graduated from The University of Chicago in 1937 and received her Masters in Mathematics from Loyola University in 1942. She was a native of Chicago and taught math in Chicago high schools for ten years before joining the Purdue Calumet Faculty in 1953. She taught algebra calculus trigonometry and other math courses for 40-plus years. She was instrumental in developing and teaching courses to overcome math anxiety. Upon her retirement from Purdue Calumet she continued teaching students from Crown Point High School who were having trouble with the math portion of the I-Step. At age 87 she stopped working but continued to tutor students at her home. Eileen has been a Crown Point resident for the past 45 years. Her love for others and math showed in everything that she did. Friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service 811 East Franciscan Drive (on State Road 55 south of State Road 231) Crown Point Thursday July 23 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday July 24 2009 DIRECTLY from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 250 S. Indiana Ave. Crown Point with Rev. David Kipp officiating. Visitation one-half hour prior to service at church.
