Edver Coburn

EDVER W. COBURN age 80 of Crown Point formerly of Merrillville & Plymouth passed away Tuesday December 26 2006 at University Hospital in Cleveland Ohio while visiting family for the holidays. He was born February 2 1926 in Lehigh Iowa. He was loving husband of Lenna Arter Coburn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years Joan Touby Couburn his brother Walter sister Anna Mae and parents. Surviving to mourn his passing are his loving children: daughters Charlotte (Terry) McGowan of Cleveland OH Marcia (Gene) Pett of Grove OK and sons Phillip (Karon) Coburn of North Liberty IN Lesley (Linda) Coburn of Great Falls MT Jonathon (Barbara) Coburn of Horn Lake MS also two step-children: Karen (Rick) Ballard of Crown Point IN and Thomas (Mary) Arter of Rochester N.Y. 18 grandchildren 8 great-grandchildren 2 brothers: J. Franklin (Beverly) Coburn of Selah WA and F. Marion (Grace) Coburn of Fairfax VA sister Audrey Coburn of Chesterton IN and numerous nieces & nephews. Mr. Coburn was proud to have served his country in WWII as a naval aviator. He was a lifelong educator having taught science courses in a number of public schools including Plymouth High School in Plymouth IN and Merrillville High School in Merrillville IN. He was honored to serve on the Indiana Teachers Accreditation Board as a member of the commission on Teacher Training & Licensing for Governor Bowen. He was active in both the Indiana State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree from Antioch College as the recipient of an award from the National Science Foundation. In addition he completed postgraduate work at various universities. Mr. Coburn enjoyed bridge golf travel and especially crossword puzzles. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Plymouth IN and in Crown Point IN serving as an elder and on many committees of the church through the years. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 6 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the 1st Presbyterian Church of Crown Point (218 S. Court St.) with Rev. Gary Sattler officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Crown Point IN. Arrangements handled by Pruzin & Little Funeral and Cremation Service.
